The 7 Elements of Design: Creating Visual Harmony

element design

These principles help designers create aesthetically pleasing, balanced, and effective designs. Graphic designs have various elements that designers must understand well to create visually pleasing digital graphics. Color, shape, and form are popular design elements you are familiar with, but other elements are just as important. The elements of design refer to a set of particular guidelines for graphic designers or artists. Design elements are the basic unit of painting, design, drawing, or any other visual piece coming into existence.

Literature on design principles

The digital design feels lively, as though dancing or vibing to its virtual music. These are the principles of design to enhance your creative genius. This image is a great example of form because we can still see that it's made up of shapes; only some have shadows and texture, which gives them form. Add real tactile texture to your design by embossing a texture to paper. This way, you have the chance to create a memorable piece that will certainly stand out from the crowd. Stylistically, it is not ideal to blend multiple textures in a design (unless necessary) as it can be overwhelming for the viewer.

Movement

When you apply them, you can predict how users will likely react to your design. “KISS” (“Keep It Simple Stupid”) is an example of a principle where you design for non-experts and therefore minimize any confusion your users may experience. We employ them to divide up rooms, define the shape of objects, highlight specific features, and so on.

Laws of Proximity, Uniform Connectedness, and Continuation – Gestalt Principles (Part

When designing something, you can take advantage of certain elements to control how the human eye travels over a design. You know how sometimes you look at a design, whether it’s a poster or a banner ad, and everything feels right about it? The use of a font or a background image that mimics a particular texture is going to help you create a memorable design. Texture refers to the surface quality of a design, which can be smooth, rough, glossy, etc. Scale refers to the size of an element in relation to another one, and it can help bring balance, proportion, and hierarchy in any design.

Hick’s Law: Making the choice easier for users

It brings together lines, shapes, forms, values, and many of the principles we've already discussed. Picasso's work used a lot of rhythm, and other artists with a distinct brand or feel are quite rhythmic. This is where certain elements guide the viewer's eye through a planned sequence of elements. They can bridge connections to form other elements like lines but can also be used alone to create patterns and texture. In this course, we showed you the basic elements you need to build up your design. These building blocks are essential to understand in order to create a successful design piece.

Eye-Catching Fonts to Grab Attention on Your YouTube Thumbnails (

It can also use the other elements to create the illusion of added information, which tricks the eye into thinking something is there. In this course, we’ll dive into the seven elements of design that can help you improve your content creation skills and ability to communicate through design. Don’t forget to follow this series on the principles of design to learn how to successfully arrange the basic elements of design we learn today. With the elements of visual design and design principles in mind, we will analyse a few websites to see how they come together, and why the designs work. Balance can be achieved by having symmetry in the design (for instance, having a webpage with centralised text and images). However, you can also achieve balance without symmetry — perhaps unsurprisingly, this is known as asymmetrical balance.

When elements are aligned, they create a visual connection with each other that communicates a story. In a previous post, we discussed Visual Communication as an effective tool in conveying the company message and corporate mission. Today, we show you how to be more effective in creating visual content that is both appealing and informative.

Color effectively contributes to the unity of a series of flyers and puts emphasis on the pertinent information that is conveyed by the other visual elements. Design principles are guidelines, biases and design considerations that designers apply with discretion. Unlike natural patterns, geometric patterns are also popular among designers. Using patterns gives your brand the edge to use them in more applications and backdrops and even form a design motif that can become a centerpiece at events. White space is also called negative space, as it isn’t always white. It is defined as the blank space deliberately left between objects in a design for aesthetic purposes.

If you want to output your design as a printed piece, you need to use the CMYK system. This subtractive system stands for cyan, magenta, yellow, and black (key). CMYK reduces the light that would be reflected on a white background to create color. It is extremely important to start a file using the right color system. Converting colors between the systems can result in muted and inaccurate colors. The colors are produced by adding primary colors together to create various combinations.

When we’re designing websites, we can make use of a grid for achieving a sense of unity, since elements organised in a grid will follow an orderly arrangement. We do need, however, to introduce some variety in our work in order to strike a balance between a boring and a chaotic design. Texture can be created by a repeated pattern of lines, or by using tiled images of textures.

White space works well in corporate communication and aesthetic designs created for special occasions. The lesser the matter, the more premium a piece of content is perceived to be. One can also use negative spaces innovatively to say more while saying nothing. Some designs use guidelines to create a path users can follow to take in information sequentially, just as the content creator has planned. Pick the best color combinations that fit the mood of a design and pair them judiciously with hues that act as a contrast.

Use white space in advertising to avoid intricate and complex visuals for a more accessible design keeping the focus on the product. Drawing a line with your pencil is how you get started with a painting or sketch and in graphic design any points that are connected form a line. This is also called an actual line while the edge between two shapes forms an implied line.

element design

In web and graphic design, textures are used to create a sense of realism and add weight to flat visuals. In interior design, physical textures—from smooth and glossy to rough and matte—impact the room's mood and comfort level. This comprehensive guide will delve into the essential elements of design, offering insights and practical advice to both budding and experienced designers. Discover the foundational elements of design in this guide, exploring how line, shape, color, and more combine to create compelling designs.

This palpable feeling in a visual is the work of movement, a principle of design that uses contrasting elements to emphasize invisible moving parts in an image. If you look at a design piece, the negative space is the area that is not occupied by any elements. For instance, abundant negative space in a layout results in an open, airy, and light background.

element design

Designers can create movement through lines, shapes, colors, and the arrangement of objects, effectively directing the viewer’s attention where it’s needed most. Contrast is the use of opposing elements, such as light vs. dark colors, smooth vs. rough textures, or large vs. small shapes, to highlight differences and create visual interest. It is a powerful tool for drawing the viewer's attention to specific parts of a design. In graphic design, white space (a form of negative space) is strategically used to improve readability and highlight important information. Additionally, in both digital and physical design, white space is essential for creating breathing room and focus, allowing the viewer's eye to rest and navigate the design with ease. Negative space refers to the area surrounding the design elements that forms an interesting shape to enhance the design.

Most designers prefer experimenting with asymmetry due to its eye-catching effect and the contrast it creates. Use visual hierarchy in your marketing materials to make it easier for your target audience to scan your content and determine what’s important to them easily. Keep this in mind for your website to draw the eyes of site visitors to the most important information and calls to action. Use texture to create a focal point, contrast, or help with balance. Replicate a natural environment through texture to craft a more three-dimensional appearance.

Banger's Sausage House on Rainey Street

It’s far more compelling than the smoked turkey breast at most joints. English muffin topped with braised pork belly, poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, house-pickled peppers & onions, & spicy shoestring potatoes. Served on a toasted martin’s potato roll, dressed NOLA style with mayo, lettuce, tomato. Served w/ potato salad, coleslaw & pickled vegetables. When the hog has been picked through, and all the meat that’s fit for barbecue has been served, the remaining bones and scraps aren’t discarded.

How Much Does English Banger Sausage Cost?

There was enough gravy to cover the fries without making them soggy. But the gravy was quite salty, so give everything on the plate a good mix to balance the flavors. The smaller bits, which were crispy and crunchy, were my favorite. The combination of textures between the crispy and tender pieces elevated this simple dish. Four would have been more appropriate for the price. Mixed in with the sausage was rice, adding flavor and texture to each bite.

Banger’s Sausage House & Beer Garden Menu

I would have preferred the brat to be crispier. If you are looking for craft beer, this is your spot. You had an assortment of appetizers and sides, perfect for sharing.

Menu

I enjoyed the textural contrast between the crunchy breading and the moist, savory filling. What surprised me the most had to be the boudin sausage hidden under the breading. The texture was different from what I was expecting. If you love comfort food, you’ll want to order this. Next up was the Boudin Balls ($9.00), a deep-fried goodie stuffed with boudin sausage.

How to save a few bucks on burgers, fried chicken and more

After the curing, it hangs for 24 hours before being pounded flat and then twisted up tight like a pancetta. It’s smoked for a few hours before it hangs over the direct heat of the smokehouse fire. Its skin gets crisped, and some of the fat drips out. To serve, a thick slice is cut and both sides are browned on a hot plancha. This bacon “steak” is tender, but still has a nice chew to it. It is cured and smoked pork belly, but the similarities between it and the bacon you might be expecting end there.

And if you want your sausage with an adventurous twist, they have almost a dozen varieties, made with everything from duck and fig, to brown sugar, chicken, and apple. There’s even a “woofwurst” you can order for your dog  after they’re done playing with the other pups in the large, fenced-in dog park. A one pound, large-format sausage, perfect for sharing. Seasoned with arbol chilis, garlic, brown sugar & our house BBQ sauce, w/ a house-made biscuit binder.

They’re hoping the business grows to justify a whole hog every day that the smokehouse is open. English muffin topped w/ roasted tomatoes, a kale salad w/ a sherry vinaigrette, poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, house-pickled peppers and onions & spicy shoestring potatoes. The classic Berlin street food that goes perfect with a liter of beer. This curry spiced pork sausage is sliced over a bed of fries, then drizzled with curry ketchup & served with a side of garlic aïoli for dunking. Roasted jalapeños, roasted Serranos, tomatillos, lime zest, spirulina, & cilantro turn this delicious pork sausage a beautiful bright green color. Topped with avocado crema, pickled red onion, shaved cabbage slaw, & cotija cheese.

The horseradish added even more heat to this brat with its classic strong and spicy flavor. You should keep your beer nearby if you can’t handle the heat. So, the Jalapeño Cheddar Brat ($10.00) stuffed with jalapeños and cheddar cheese wasn’t a difficult choice. More jalapeños and a grain of mustard topped this brat off. Since I love beer gardens, craft beer, and smoked foods, I went to Banger’s Sausage House & Beer Garden to try it out.

And, it allows me to use the best dogs on the market. This being a hotbed of seething multi-ethnicity, the choice of dogs out there is humongous. Texans in love with beef barbecue may not agree with Prater’s assessment of pork supremacy, but I appreciate his honesty about why he’d rather not cook brisket. “I like cooking a pig, and I can guarantee that the pig is gonna be right,” he said.

And I can’t forget about the beer garden, the perfect spot in town to enjoy a cold one. The French fries are the most essential component of any poutine. They must be crispy on the outside while soft on the inside. They must also withstand the gravy and cheese piled on top without becoming soggy. Its shredded texture reminded me of pulled pork but with a spicy, smoky Cajun twist.

Served on the side were crunchy, salty pickles and a thick stone ground mustard. The pickles and a dip in the mustard helped cut through the richness of the deep-fried boudin balls. Other than food, there was a vast selection of craft beers. There were over 100 beers on draft, ranging from local Austin beers to harder-to-find brews. If you have the time, peek at the smokehouse in the back of the beer garden. And all of this is set to the soundtrack of a live brass band, glasses clinking, and a loud “prost” in unison.

Running through that pig starts with the shoulder. A hog has lean and fatty cuts that must be mixed to create the right level of juiciness, but the shoulders alone have the proper balance. They are chopped first, and some of the crispy skin is mixed in. The process is done with batches as small as possible. If the chopped mixture sits too long, the crisp skin “sogs out really quick,” Prater said. Once the shoulders are chopped and served, they move to the loin, belly, and ham, and mix those together as the rest of the hog is served.

Of course, because this is Banger’s Sausage House, a couple links are on the smokehouse menu. There’s a straight pork sausage and a jalapeño cheese variety. They’re prepared differently than the sausage served on the main Banger’s menu—smoked pretty hot to come out with an incredible snap to the casing and a juicy texture.

Now Prater is head of culinary operations, responsible for a whole lot more than sausage and barbecue. The restaurant’s recent expansion, which included the smokehouse, brought with it a fermentation program, cured meats, and lots of bacon. Prater explained that the varieties of bacon produced, at varying salt levels, each have different uses. There’s also seasoning bacon that’s cubed and fills the center of a pit-cooked sweet potato, along with a generous scoop of sorghum butter. That they first cure for three days in a bath of bourbon, coffee, and water with some sugar, black pepper, and salt.

Prater got his first restaurant job at age fourteen. He bused tables, washed dishes, and worked the grill at dive bars. “I did a stint at Pizza Hut at eighteen just because I was able to sell weed out of my Volkswagen Bug and deliver pizza at the same time,” he told me with a laugh.

The restaurant is popular for its traditional, exotic, and vegetarian sausage selection. They also offer one of the best selections of craft beers in Texas, with over 100 beers on draft. Layered with butter, cinnamon, brown sugar & house-made peach preserves. Served hot & topped with cream cheese frosting. Our take on the classic kielbasas from the supermarket! Served with red cabbage braised with bacon & smashed, bacon-fat-fried fingerling potatoes.

common house plants

If some of the leaves begin to rot or fall off, trim them and remove them from the soil – this will promote new healthy, top growth. These blooms can grow to be bigger than your hand if consistently and properly cared for. This very common indoor plant can be quite a statement maker in your home. They require a fairly large potting area, and can grow to be about 10 feet tall, like the Majesty Palm. Unlike the Majesty Palm, the Fiddle Leaf Fig has a faster growing rate and can survive in conditions that aren’t quite suitable for more fickle plants. If you’re looking for something different, you might like to try a carnivorous plant garden.

Types of Philodendron Varieties to Grow Indoors

'Zahara' zinnias come in a range of colors and can have single or double blooms that are solid-colored, or two-tone. “They are an outstanding performer in heat and drought,” Lacy says. This very common type of houseplant has been around for millions of years!

Pet Friendly Houseplants For Indoor Gardens

Watering should only be done by setting the plant in a tray of water. Great for beginner gardeners, spider plants (Chlorophytum comosum) are known for being low maintenance. "Naturally decorative, spider plants have thin, gracefully arching leaves that produce a lovely fountain effect," says Kelly Funk, president of Jackson & Perkins.

Moreover, they gain by lightly cleaning their leaves around once a year to remove dust. The incredibly minimal care needs make this a great house plant for beginners to keep in practically any setting. When growing dumb canes indoors, keep them away from kids or pets.

Often grown for its healing properties, aloe is a low-maintenance houseplant that is also pest-resistant. The succulent has thick leaves that grow from a central rosette, but it can form a stem over time. Like most succulents, aloe has very low watering needs and can survive for weeks without water—perfect for gardeners still perfecting their green thumb. Tree philodendron (Philodendron selloum) has very large, glossy green leaves that are lobed and incised. "The large foliaged houseplant has gained in popularity due to its impact on complimenting home décor," says Bunting. It can tolerate a range of growing conditions, but it luxuriates in a warm and humid room.

common house plants

As houseplants, their trailing growth habit works well in hanging displays that allow the plants stems to drape in a natural way. As houseplants, fishbone cacti are frequently planted in hanging baskets which allow their long stems to trail nicely. Coming in solid and variegated varieties, as a houseplant, English ivy looks thrilling in a hanging basket or when displayed on a high shelf.

Chinese Evergreens

For quicker germination rates, place your pit in a nutrient-rich compost or, if you have one, a worm bin, which can encourage your pit to sprout very quickly. If you don’t think you have much of a “green thumb,” give arrowhead vines a try.

Areca Palms (Dypsis Lutescens)

If you choose a Chinese evergreen with bright or variegated leaves, you'll need to keep it in a brighter spot to maintain the coloring, while green varieties do well in low light. Bromeliads are super popular, thanks to their colorful blooms and minimal needs. They're a type of air plant, so they can even grow without soil. They can thrive in even low light conditions, making them a great choice for an office or a space in your home that doesn't get much light. And they also thrive on neglect, needing less water than other plants.

Christmas cactus are ideal houseplants if a grower likes to see flowers blooming from November – January. An easy to care for plant that displays very narrow arching leaflets compared to other palms. Mexican Fortune Tree – Pachira AquaticaA tree-type plant growing up to 10ft tall or even kept to bonsai size indoors.

Many plants also need humid conditions so mist plants regularly, spritzing them with a misting spray to raise the humidity levels in warm, dry rooms. Feed regularly (around once a month) with a specialist house plant feed during the growing season, from spring to autumn. Many house plants cease growing in the winter months, so need less feeding and watering at this time. Plus Moreover, they enjoy high humidity, and if grown properly, they can bloom for the most of the year. It takes more work to take care of this plant than other common houseplants, so it may not be a good choice for people who are just starting out. Orchids are beautiful flowering plants that come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and colors.

Simply stop watering your plant, place it in a cool, dry place for eight to ten weeks and your cyclamen should begin to regrow. Preferring infrequent deep watering and bright light, avocado trees do best when fertilized on occasion with a balanced fertilizer suitable for citrus trees. With large, glossy leaves (which can grow up to 3’ long, depending on the variety) and highly structural forms, alocasia look like the tropics.

Most indoor plants thrive in bright but indirect light – a few feet from a window is ideal. No house plant will be happy next to a radiator, open fire or air conditioning unit. Aloe vera is one of the most popular and common houseplants worldwide. As a succulent of the desert variety, it appreciates bright light but requires minimal watering to remain healthy. They are good at filtering air, but they can be toxic to curious pets. Croton plants are popular houseplants that are prized for their vibrant, colorful leaves.

This plant is quite short-lived, only flowering once in its lifetime, but it’s easy to propagate if you want to enjoy the colors again. Like the other long-leaved indoor plants on this list, this plant is easy-care but hard to maintain as a perfect specimen. This true fern is gaining popularity for its long, rippled leaves. It’s slow-growing but can thrive in dark areas of your home as long as you never take your eye off it. There’s a reason the mature trees are so eye-wateringly expensive.

Go for Saturated Colors

Jewel tones include saturated hues of red, green, blue, yellow, and purple. Emerald green is a popular choice and can be achieved with vibrant wall tiles. Contrast against standard white bathroom fixtures for an unexpected fresh feel. For small bathroom remodel ideas, you’ll need to think extra carefully about storage.

Black-and-White Tile

bath design

Using white as your predominant color gives you unlimited freedom with your accessories and finishing touches. If you want to make the room pop, add lush green plants or colorful artwork. Traditional bathrooms usually include furniture-style vanity units, claw-foot bathtubs, and opulent light fixtures like chandeliers. Decorative wallpaper also works well, along with a strategically placed comfy chair and dressing table. Plenty of natural materials like wood and stone are needed for a ranch-style bathroom.

Check your local building regulations for detailed requirements. As a general guide, you’ll need at least 1 CFM (cubic feet per minute) per square foot of room area. Unlike a large family home, condos usually have limited space. You’ll need to think carefully about maximizing what you have available. Bear in mind that the room is isolated from the rest of the house.

Contrast your dark floor with a white tub and toilet along with a lighter shade of grout to add some depth to your design. Light grey and white color schemes can brighten up small spaces. Use vertical mirrors to reflect even more light into the room. Try adding darker-colored accessories to create a warm and inviting feel. If you’re unsure, start with a monochrome design and add hints of color using bathroom accessories.

You can further save on costs by building your own shelving unit. Fix together standard 1 x 2 wood lengths with pocket-hole screws for a clean, minimal, and inexpensive storage solution. The easiest way to reposition your toilet would be to move it somewhere along the existing 3-inch drainpipe. This means you wouldn’t have to refit your entire floor and lay a new pipe.

After: Bold Bathroom Wallpaper

An ornate style and vintage furniture and lighting will help you create the right contrast. Use timber floorboards mixed with neutral white tones to hit the brief. Ornate chandeliers or decorative lights suspended from the ceiling can finish off the look perfectly. Consider a centrally-placed bathtub for the ultimate luxurious relaxation spot. Use indoor plants, add floating shelves, and place chairs or baskets to fill the space. For a tiny bathroom, use a corner sink and wall cistern to save space.

Well-Being in the Bathroom

A high-quality freestanding tub can work well as a stunning centerpiece. A beautiful Boho-Chic bathroom style doesn’t have to break the bank. Use textured accessories and organic materials like feathers, straw, and woven baskets. As standard bathtubs are 5 feet long (60 inches), 5 x 7 bathrooms are common. To maximize the available space you can position the bathtub at the end of the room snugly between the two walls. Conjuring up bathroom remodel ideas can be a daunting process.

In an ideal world, you’d be working with simple, uniform dimensions. Here are some bathroom remodel layout ideas for perfectly square rooms, as well as other common shapes. Line up each bathroom fitting along a wall in a galley design for an efficient layout. Use lace, flowers, and neutral pastels for a gentle feminine vibe. Combine with distressed and weathered surfaces to add a lived-in feel.

There’s no rulebook that states you have to use a ceramic or resin shower tray. Go for something a little different and completely tile your shower enclosure. You’ll benefit from improved access while also saving on costs. The different possibilities will depend on your room dimensions. You could consider a dual or even triple vanity to add some convenience for all the family. A long bathroom makes fitting a dual-vanity easy, you should have plenty of room to experiment with the various options.

You can even incorporate oil-rubbed bronze, antiqued brass, and hammered copper. By now, we don’t have to explain to you what zellige tile is. You’ve seen it in bathroom renovations left and right over the past few years. This bathroom designed by Old Brand New now features bright teal cabinets with gold hardware as well as new tile. The vibrant color gives off a cheerful modern vibe that's hard to resist.

The only problem is, there are so many great primary bathroom ideas that it can be hard to decide what to do. If you know what you want to update but don't know exactly how, these bathroom remodel ideas will help you choose a direction. They're designer projects you can pin to your vision board and reference as you start to piece your project together. Whether you're completing a full bathroom remodel or a simple update, these bathroom design ideas will give your space a fresh look and feel. Get inspired by beautiful primary bathroom designs and no-fail bathroom color schemes. Plus, we have clever space-saving tips for even the smallest bathrooms and powder rooms.

The size of your room, along with your home plumbing layout will determine what’s possible for your bathroom remodel project. Wainscoting is a kind of extended skirting board designed to break up the monotony of a wall. It will add some charm and decorative detail to your bathroom while protecting your walls. Wainscoting is usually wood so remember to paint or seal properly, especially in splash zones.

Whether you’re adding a powder room, bathroom vanity or creating a serene master retreat, remodeling a bathroom is no small job. We guide you through cost considerations, when to hire a pro, and what you should upgrade. Most bathroom contractors maintain running portfolios with pictures of completed projects.

Next, place the sausages in the pan and cook, turning occasionally, until they are nicely browned on all sides. I’ve tried the barbecue at Banger’s on weekdays and weekends. Rainey Street is a nightmare of crowds on a Saturday if you’re just looking for a good plate of barbecue. It’s hard to dissociate Banger’s from the stereotypical Rainey scene of buzzed twenty-somethings bar-hopping on dangerously swerving scooters. If you can look beyond that, there’s real depth to the cooking at Banger’s. Each dish is thoughtfully prepared and well executed.

Boudin is a pork sausage made with rice and seasonings, such as Cajun seasoning. To make boudin balls, take the sausage, roll it into a ball, toss it in breadcrumbs, and deep fry it. Each order came with three boudin balls, pickles, and grain mustard on the side. When I ordered, I had no idea what boudin balls were.

At the end of the day, Banger's is all about being a wonderful place to eat, drink and hangout. Not too rowdy, not too laid back, just a good old fashioned good time.

These are 10 of the oldest restaurants in Los Angeles County

They’re boiled down into a rich stock that forms the foundation of their spicy barbecue hash. That’s a thick stew of pork, spices, and chicken livers to give it a little twang. The hash is served over fluffy white rice with a scoop of slaw on top. That final flourish isn’t something you’ll find in South Carolina, but I liked the mix of sweet slaw and spicy hash, and it turns that side cup into a full meal. It’s hard to categorize how they cook the whole hog, since it’s not beholden to any single barbecue style. It’s closer to the Eastern North Carolina approach than any other.

There’s a Pancake-Dedicated Food Truck in West Campus

Our take on the most classic of German sausages. Mild, perfectly balanced & most importantly, delicious. Salted, served with cheese sauce & house-made beer mustard. Tossed with maple syrup & apple cider dressing. Finished with house-smoked bacon lardons & crispy onions. Preheat a large skillet or frying pan, and heat the oil over medium heat.

It was so juicy that the meat and cheese oils flowed out when I bit into the brat. The menu’s main focus was the house-made sausages, ranging from the traditional brat to the exotic duck sausage. Four pancakes topped with whipped cream, two seasonal breakfast sausage patties, two eggs, shoestring potatoes & a side of real maple syrup. Germany is the land where they serve the most (and often the best) sausages. By the 19th century, a longer, thinner version of the frankfurter had been created by a Viennese butcher named J.G.

Yet if you talk to him about his food for a while, you’ll realize his skills and thoughtfulness about cooking go well beyond the smokehouse. Banger’s has a lot of beer on tap (104 to be exact!) and another 50 in bottles and cans. Last up was the Poutine ($7.50 for small, $12.50 for large). For those who don’t know, poutine is a Canadian dish made of french fries, cheese curds, and gravy.

There was everything from pickles to pretzels to poutine. Four house-made biscuits served with honey butter & seasonal preserves. A classic vinegar-based pickle, made right here in house.

“The only reason we designed the smokehouse is because the city kept getting mad at me for starting fires everywhere,” Prater said. The lightly melted cheese, which reminded me of fresh mozzarella, had a dense, chewy texture and mild flavor. While simple, the combination of cheese curds, gravy, and French fries made a delicious dish. The fresh-cut salt & pepper fries did not disappoint.

Although they don’t have any beef in them, they’ll be the most familiar Texas barbecue protein on the menu. Served on a toasted Martin’s potato roll and topped with horseradish slaw. Garlic-brined turkey, smoked in-house, served w/ house-cured bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato, red onion, roasted garlic aïoli & dijon mustard. Served on grilled sourdough w/ a house-made pickle & your choice of American fries or a house salad.

They’ve always lagged behind hamburgers (and more recently, by tacos) in popularity, which are really the quintessential Los Angeles fast-food dish. Prater has a strong Tennessee accent that would stand out among a crowd speaking in even the thickest Texas drawls. His beard alone could be cast as a moonshine runner in a Hollywood film. He wears overalls unironically and exhibits an easygoing, hospitable demeanor. He seems like a guy with a long history cooking whole hogs, because he is. “Barbecue is something I did in my backyard my whole life,” he told.

Before cooking, the hog’s skin is salted to promote drying while it sits over the fire. The skin is then crisped over hot coals at the end of the cook and chopped together with the meat. Topping this brat were jalapeños and a grain mustard. The peppers added more heat, more so than the sausage. Grilled & chilled corn, kale, fresh bell peppers, sliced red onion, cherry tomatoes, avocado, & jalapeños tossed in a Santa Fe dressing. The slow simmering in the flavorful broth helps the banger sausages stay moist and tender, infusing them with additional flavors from the onions and garlic.

I’m either going to be your customer, or I’m going to work for you.” He got the job. Thanks to a recent expansion, the Austin joint now regularly offers a Carolina barbecue pork tradition in the heart of Texas brisket country. If you are looking for good beer, great food, and good times, then Banger’s Sausage House & Beer Garden is the spot for you.

Sugar-conscious foods do not contain added sugars and have less than 4g of sugar per serving. Dairy-free products do not contain ingredients such as milk, butter, cheese, sour cream, yogurt, whey, casein, ghee and lactose. We believe a better treated animal creates a better tasting sausage. So, when we couldn’t find sausages in the Pacific North-West that lived up to our expectations, we decided there was only one way to go... Daniel Vaughn is the country’s first barbecue editor, and he has eaten more barbecue than you have. When I took my first bite, I found the skin of the brat to be snappy but a little hard to bite through.

World's largest cruise ship: what to know as it sets sail from Miami

world's largest cruise ship

The groundbreaking vessel was built at the STX shipyard in Turku, Finland. Oasis of the Seas also boasts features like the Zip-line and the AquaTheater. Harmony of the Seas was the first in the class to feature the 10-Story Ultimate Abyss slide, which is located aft of the ship above the AquaTheater. The slide has since been a major feature on new Oasis-class vessels and added during refurbishments.

What’s the Best Month to Cruise? Pros & Cons of Sailing Each Month of the Year

The giant ship that Meyer Turku built in Finland can also hold 2,350 crew members. Cruise ships are getting bigger and bigger, and by the time a new world’s largest cruise ship is built, an even bigger ship is already being planned. Cruise Hive looks at the top ten biggest cruise ships in the world by gross tons. To help you compare the sizes, we've rounded up and ranked the 30 largest cruise ships in the world by gross tonnage (which is a measure of volume, not weight). We've included other stats, such as passenger capacity (both double occupancy and max occupancy) plus length and beam (the width at the widest point of the vessel).

Carnival Celebration

I spent my time there perched at one of its in-water loungers, contently splashing my legs around the water, wondering if I actually hated cruises. The 1,196-foot-long, 20-deck Icon of the Seas is packed with bars, restaurants, and things to do. Any shorter of an itinerary, and you might not have time to experience all it has to offer. The 365m-long (1,197 ft) Icon of the Seas has 20 decks and can house a maximum of 7,600 passengers.

"We believe, even at 7,500 guests, it won't feel to you like your entire hometown has joined the ship," said Schneider. Jay Schneider, Royal Caribbean's Chief Product Innovation Officer, says the cruise ship is more than just its amenities. At full occupancy, World Europa can carry 6,762 passengers, putting it just shy of the 7,000 guest mark. Then there is Ocean Loops, an intense waterslide that takes you out over the edge of the ship (complete with clear tubes) before bringing you back in.

Costa Cruises Costa Smeralda

world's largest cruise ship

The unique onboard ambiance continues today on the most recent Mardis Gras, which was launched in 2021, and has 17 passenger decks, 2,641 staterooms and a rollercoaster. Once it’s completed, the ship will measure in at 20-decks high, 1,200 feet long, and 250,800 gross tons. This floating mini-city is expected to sail year round and offer seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises out of Miami. Princess is well-known for offering a more luxurious experience than mass-market lines, and that typically means smaller ships. In fact, the largest ships in the fleet are smaller than what you see from other major cruise lines but are still substantial. Norwegian Cruise Line is an outlier of the major cruise lines in that its newest ships are actually going smaller.

MSC Meraviglia is the first ship in MSC's Meraviglia-class and received the "8 Golden Pearls" award, which recognizes sustainable and environmental stewardship. This meritable ship has 18 decks, 15 of which are accessible to guests, and 2,244 total staterooms. AIDA Cruises AIDAnova is the first launched in the Excellence-class, which also has sister ship AIDAcosma. It was the first ship to be awarded the "Blauer Engel," which is a German environmental label given to green-friendly products and services. Royal Caribbean Allure of the Seas made its maiden voyage in December 2010.

It’s not just the massive size (250,800 gross tons and 7,600 passengers at maximum capacity), but what’s onboard. A full-fledged waterpark, seven different pools, and eight different neighborhoods offer a spot for everyone. The Icon of the Seas is divided into eight neighborhoods across 20 decks.

MSC Virtuosa, which is another member of the Meraviglia-Plus class, first set sail in May 2021. It is easily one of the largest in MSC's fleet (along with sister ship Grandiosa), having 2,421 cabins on 15 passenger-accessible decks (18 decks total). Royal Caribbean's Symphony of the Seas slips to the fourth position this year, having been the biggest cruise ship in the world from 2018 to 2022. It's a city at sea, accommodating up to 7,600 passengers in 2,805 staterooms and nearly 10,000 people, including the crew.

The ship that started the trend of truly mega ships is also the namesake of the Oasis class — Oasis of the Seas. If you notice, most of the largest ships on our list were built recently. This ship first began sailing in 2009 and set off the “arms race” of larger ships that continues today. Today, it’s the third-largest cruise ship on the planet, but it’s no slouch. It holds seven different neighborhoods, nearly 3,000 staterooms, three waterslides, and Ultimate Abyss — a 10-story dry slide.

Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas was previously the world’s largest cruise ship in most of 2023. The Oasis class vessel is 236,857 gross tons and has a passenger capacity of 5,734 at double occupancy, but that goes up to 7,084 at maximum capacity. The giant cruise ship also has a crew capacity of 2,204, and there are a total of 18 decks.

The ship’s first cruise is set for February 2024, and will debut Princess Cruises' largest number of dining options, offering guests 29 choices. P&O Cruises held its spot on the top ten list of largest cruise ships in the world with an aptly named ship. Arvia is Latin for “from the seashore.” Arvia was launched in 2022 and features 19 decks (15 passenger-accessible decks). Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas was previously the world's largest cruise ship, starting in January 2022. Its first voyage was in March 2022, becoming the fifth member of Royal's Oasis-class ships.
